PRIMATE (5-minute Freewrite)

The outlaw pulled the match from behind his two front teeth with a snap. The head flared and ignited. A small flame danced at the end of the balsa wood stick. He tilted his head to the left, lifted a cigarette to his mouth and inhaled. The match was tossed aside as the smoke glowed a satisfying red ember.

On the ground, two dirt covered men looked up with fright in their eyes. One had wet himself. The other squirmed like a Mexican jumping bean.

"I'll ask you just one more time," said the outlaw. "Where is the gold you panned from Forrester Pass? And you better speak so as I can hear you. You primate."

"Honest, Mister. We don't know where they put that gold. We just dig the dirt and ran it down to the sluices by the wagon load."

"Yeah, yeah! He ain't lyin'. Honest, we was just movin' dirt around, fella."
