RE: Holding On Too Much : Day 376 : 5 Minutes Freewrite.

"He was the first to do so many things in Africa, his passion was what put him into trouble, a free Africa" - sounds like another visionary and leader, Marcus Garvey, who tried in the early 1920s to rehome the African diaspora, bringing freed slaves and their U.S. born descendants back to the homeland. Trouble was, Liberia and Sierra Leone did not welcome newcomers annexing any land - and in America, Herbert Hoover led a smear campaign against Garvey, ultimately framing him with bogus charges of mail fraud, and getting him in prison for five years, then into exile. Garvey's grandson and family petitioned Barak Obama to clear Garvey's good name, but Obama declined to do so. Did Garvey, like Gadaffi, have a big ego and inflated ideas of his importance? Probably. Was imprisoning him the only way his oppenents could stop him? Hardly.
