Prompt of the day “Fire Alarm” - The Ring That Never Ends!?!
There was a time at Portofino Bakery when our ovens would trip the fire alarms constantly, we all became accustomed to working through it. The number of times that year the fire department was called to do a walk-through is rather ridiculous knowing it was a complete waste of time.
The firefighters had to do their job though and us bakers learned to work through it, always amusing to see a first timers reaction wanting to run for the door!
The worst part about it was not having to endure the alarm while it was going rather it was the fact that even after they shut it off you would continue to hear the alarm. One day we had the fire alarm trip four times and on my way home from work that day I had to crank my music to drowned out the sound of the alarm ringing in my ears.
The next day at work I mentioned it to my coworkers who all agreed they had the same phenomenon after leaving work the previous day. One said he stopped to check his car thinking it was some sound from the car and didn’t realize the ringing was in his ears until he shut it off and the noise would not go away even in what should have been complete silence.
It’s a haunting sound, lingers like a police siren in the distance, you know it is and alarm but can’t place the location, the quieter your environment the louder it seems, it is the ring that never ends!

You are so right. I quess it is the same everywhere. Nobody will respond, you can not figure out where exactly it does come from and that terrible sound stays in your ears/head
