Warm sleep washed over Raphael that night and he was immersed in a series of vivid dreams accompanied by Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” Somewhere in the third movement, an incongruent sound had him floating back on the surface of reality. The urgency of tempo, though mysteriously mirrored, was pierced with gasps of random voices and a paddling rhythm.

His bedroom window was open to temper the summer heat and as he shook off the sweat of unconsciousness, he came to realize that a night train was rolling by. Why was it singing to him? What did it want him to know?

He went out onto the balcony, attached his iPad to a tripod, watched and listened.
