5-Minute Freewrite Prompt: The Bittersweet Kiss

Gerard thought that this was the best thing that could happen in his life. He had planned for this trip for so long to bring his newly wedded wife to her dream holiday in the Maldives.

"We got to go before the island sinks. Do you know the water level has been increasing every year?" May always ALWAYS asked him this.

Gerard worked really hard to make this happen and he wanted to surprise May with it. He didn't just want it to be an ordinary holiday but he wanted to pamper her with a luxury package after she had completed her stressful work project, so it would serve like a surprise reward to her.

"I'm so brilliant. She has to commend me for being the smartest and most loving husband ever!" Gerard chuckled at his own thoughts.

The day had finally come. He was waiting for her response when he told he they were going to head off to Maldives the following week! She was shocked and screamed, but then she later panicked because he told her this late, and she couldn't have time to prepare!!! But still, she was thrilled and gave him his well-deserved kiss. A happy wife, a happy life!!

They had a blast and enjoyed Maldives so much that they decided to extend another 3 days to their 10-day stay. 2 days before their honeymoon ended, Gerard received a call that his company needed him back urgently because obe of the directors went missing and he was needed for an urgent decision meeting. Reluctantly, he had to cut short their honeymoon but May had a better idea of her staying on, and meet him back in 2 days time. After all, she had been enjoying herself with all the spa and view.

Before he left, she gave him the sweetest kiss ever to thank him for remembering her desires and loving her. Off he flew and got busy with work. Two days later, he was about to go to the airport to receive his beautiful wife back when he got a horrific news, the plane with her wife onboard has gone MISSING!!!

He couldn't believe that was happening to them, how can fate do that to them? They just got married and they had been wanting to build their family!! That was supposed to be their dream holiday and their best memory thus far.

He tried to blame the airlines, he tried to blame himself, he tried to blame his company. He was always seen scrolling through the last photos he had of her in his phone. That sweet and happy smile. Her bright laughter. Her telling him how much she loves him because of what he had done to make her dream come true. As much as he recalled all the sweet moments, what he misses the most is "We have to go before it sinks!" That memory is cutting him from within. Tears rained down Gerard's cheeks and he started crying like a baby everytime when it's the darkest of nights. That last kiss was just too bittersweet.
