Cherry Blossom Tree (5-minute Freewrite Prompt
My usual active young brother suddenly became extremely quiet and still. He had been sitting on the sofa as still as a log for half an hour.
I was worried so I went over and had a look but he was still motionless. Looking at me intensely with his mouth open, I became anxious.
Then he pointed at his nostril so I scooped and took a peek. There was something in there for goodness sake!
He pointed towards the decorative cherry blossom tree at the corner of the living hall.
"Bud? You put the bud into your nose?" I asked as I tried to make a calm voice.
He nodded.
Off we went to the nearby clinic to have it out. Thanks to the skillful doctor it was out in no time. And immediately my 5-year-old brother was back to his usual self. Running and jumping non-stop.
It was the most happy days in the year. Chinese New Year - the only time where family and relatives gathered at one same place to have a meal together. And our aunt's house always looked so beautiful with that huge expensive cherry blossom tree and their buds. Plus other decorative items.
"Sshh... Don't tell aunt about the missing bud," he whispered to me secretly.
"What aunt and what bud?" Our aunt interrupted from the other side of the hall. "I can hear even you whisper."
Being panicky, I quickly responded, "Ahh... He said this year you've got slimming butt. Means you slim down alot." Another lie to cover for my brother.
You see, last year he broke my aunt's super huge and expensive vase. He got canned seriously.
I would not let it happen again.
