The batter is ready. So I knead it. Like dough. Dough batter... mmmm cookie batter is what batter is. Not dough

UGH sometimes when you're trying to be silly, the silly gets you.

baseball. Hey look over there, is that a transformer? No? It's a kumquat? Funny. Funny.

Ha ha ha

ah, insides are overwhelmed. Burning down burning up. Can I tell a story while I feeeeeeeel?

Let's try. Let's just retell Casey at the bat. So there's this baseball hero. Small town feel to the story. So, before major league baseball existed, because this guy is the best thinks the people in his town

That's a thing that we don't get to experience much of anymore, believing that our friends are the best in the world because they're the best in the town. I mean, I guess for high school, you can believe that, but once someone's an adult, if they were good enough to be a pro, they'd be going for it. But anyways, back to Casey. He's up. A little backstory tells us that this pitcher was trying to end the inning before Casey got up, 'cause he hits a lot of home runs. But the pitcher has not only failed, but of course that means there are runners on base, so Casey is probably going to knock it out of the park, and all those runners will score, and our hometown hero will win the game for us.

But a pitch goes by and Casey doesn't swing. He says something swaggerty, like, "I didn't like that one"

Or whatever. You get the point. He gets set up for bingo bango boongo bongo. He gets set up for the fall of hubris. Yes, spoiler alert, Casey strikes out. It's a real exercise in setting the audience up with expectations and then letting them feel disappointed or surprised, I guess. But low stakes, really, baseball.... unless there's something in the poem that told us the stakes were higher, but I don't think they were.
