Digital human
Of course the starship had a digital human. He was essentially Ryan Seacrest, but they'd developed him to have a few foibles, too. The problem with Ryan Seacrest is that, since he was so perfect, people wouldn't buy a non-human as a human being who was that perfect. What they came up with had a slightly receding hairline, and often joked about the weather being unnaturally nice, which, of course, it was except during rainstorm challenges.
