A Couple of Things I Want to Tell You

First off, I want to thank @deeanndmathews for being such a good sport about finding herself - without any warning - the subject of the Daily Prompt!

Let me tell you first that I loved what you all did with that and I saw such an outpouring of love, friendship, acknowledgment of talent and such that my heart was singing with joy and I got re-inspired to keep on going with this freewrite adventure.

Lately, I have had a lot going on in Real Life - all good, but taking my time and energy. And the tech on Steem failed me more than once. Often, I have prepared the posts when I was dog tired or distracted.

That is what happened the day of DeeAnn becoming your post. She had won the Literary Talent Award at the Freewrite House and I was late sending her the winnings. Now, when I do a transfer, I usually copy and paste the name since I am a bit dyslexic and tend to mix up letters ever so often. I did that right before going to bed.

Then, early in the morning, I got the prompt ready and copied it from my spreadsheet. Then I pasted it into the template while people around me were asking me questions already. Yup. It was evening before I realized what I had published 😱

First, I felt bad about my mistake - but as I was reading your freewrites, I thought that this was the best prompt ever!

A Stone Rose

Remember the prompt Stone Rose?

Above you see a picture of the inspiration for this prompt. This is actually a stone - and it looks like a rose...

When some of us Steemians had gathered in Colorado to get to know each other and live and breath Steem, @scarletreaper and @rakkasan84 surprised us on the last day with supersweet gifts!

We all got a goody bag of rocks they had collected on their adventures and each rock had a memory attached to it. We all are keepers of their adventures now.

The Rock Rose was especially fascinating. This kind of stone can only be found on an island and @scarletreaper told us that @rakkasan84 put on chest-high waders he had inherited from his grandpa and went out in icy water to collect the stones for the kids and her - and apparently for us as well.

What a treasure we got to share and now, you all are part of the Stone Rose memory as well. And your freewrites to that prompt were awesome!!

Freewrite Info, Contests, Tips and More

Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.

Please read, comment and vote (if you have voting power) on each others freewrites as much as you can. Especially if you are new to the platform, you will be surprised how many friendships are formed by reading and commenting on each other's work!

Writing help

• A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Just remember that is is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link

• Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.

• A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link

• The discord channel Isle of Write has workshop rooms for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry where some of the experienced writers might be able to give some tips. Join with this link https://discord.gg/zfXNRnK

• If you are ready to get serious about improving your understanding of the English language check out @majes.tytyty blog. He has lots of useful information to understand words and their roots better. If you have questions or need help, leave a comment on his blog.

• @jonsnow1983 does regular posts for English learners to help with the correct usage of words and grammar. Even native English speakers can learn from him.

• If you know of other helpful tools or people, please share with us!

There are many contests on Steemit. From art to music to writing and everything in between. Enter as many as you can!! And take advantage of the free money people give away I listed in the money section below.
