5 Minute Freewrite--Single Prompt Option: History

"History? Don't you mean herstory?"

Lena was flummoxed by this question from the impertinent 6th grader, who was now snickering with her best friend.

"I- no- I mean- This is your history class. I- just- Welcome to 6th grade history!" She smiled wide and most of the class snickered at her.

At the end of the day she felt like a limp noodle that had been run over by a car. Why the hell had she wanted to be a teacher? Oh, but that's right. She hadn't wanted to be a teacher, not really. But her dad was a teacher and her mom was a teacher and her aunt and her other aunt and her uncle and her aunt and her other uncle were teachers. She came from a line of teachers and it wasn't really up to her, to her, if she got to be a teacher or a spider veterinarian, which was what she really wanted.

She could see it now--"Tarantula exclusive" her ads would read. It must be rough, being a tarantula owner, not having a specialized vet to take your baby to. Not that tarantulas were technically spiders.* But that was okay. She would make an exception for them. But the real thrill would be the pet Black Widow spiders. She knew that some people kept them as pets because she was a member of several secret Facebook groups for spider pet owners.

*I am leaving this because it was a part of the freewrite, but actually it's wrong. Tarantulas are spiders. Lena, who wants to be a spider vet, would know that tarantulas are spiders. I really wanted to change it because it's so wrong, but it was a part of the freaking freewrite.
