Chapter 11
The two could hear the guards chatting, but they were too far to distinguish the muttering into words. They paused for a moment in their step and took a deep breath. They could take their time to come up with their next move.
“Almost forgot how fun shooting was!” James laughed and Tom followed suit.
“Good thing we have a couple left then, huh?” They laughed again. “You want to go to the back and distract them? I can take out the two on this side easily.”
“Sure thing, but I’m taking the other side, okay?” James was already on his way when he finished the sentence, turned around and smiled at Tom.
Tom ran behind the building closest to the side of the palace and waited for his father to give him a sign to turn the corner. It didn’t take long for the guards at the palace to start shooting – James had thrown his hat in the air like a frisbee and while it slowly parachuted toward the ground the guards panicked and shot recklessly at it. By that time James was already at the other side of that same building and returned a couple shots, which only served as a distraction. Having heard James’ gunfire, Tom knew it was his time to shine. He turned the corner and caught both of the guards still alive facing the other way and had no trouble shooting them down.
