👑 Visiting The Royal Mews 👑
The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is home to all of the horses and carriages that serve the Queen and members of the Royal Family. During special ceremonies, the royal family can be seen riding in horse carriages. These elaborate carriages are custom made, and have a lot of history to them.
While in London, I had the opportunity to visit the Royal Mews and see all of their horses and carriages. The ticket cost ten pounds.
Here are a couple of carriages I enjoyed viewing.
This first carriage, the Gold Stage Coach, was the most decorative carriage in the exhibit. This carriage was built in 1760 and cost about $1.57 million. Weighing four tons, it requires eight horses to pull the coach. The carriage is so heavy, that it can only be pulled at a walk.
In the photo above, the carriage's top comes off, similar to how a convertible car would function.
The newest coach at the Mews is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. It was first used at the State Opening of Parliament June 4, 2014. The carriage weighs over 3 tons and requires 6 horses to pull it.
