On the 8th of March, @bettervision games and get together was organized in honor of International Women’s Day and to further commemorate this day a free eye screening program was held at Kumasi Wesley Girls Senior High on the 9th of March. A unisex female school was chosen for the exercise due to the fact that it was in honor of International Women’s Day and a high school was chosen because it is at this point that studies is at the zenith as students prepare for undergraduate programs in the university. Research has shown that a greater majority of people are visual learners more than auditory and that our sight is our primary means of studying thus without proper vision it becomes difficult to study and excel. At the time of High School years, refractive errors would have fully developed and become stable thus correcting them at this time in the lives of students would go a long way to help them academically and in all ventures of their lives since our sight is our primary source of everything we do.

In developing countries such as Ghana people would hardly visit the eye clinic for general checkup unless their vision is been affected by whichever symptom they may be experiencing because of this most people grow with their refractive errors without even realizing they have one, from infancy their academics are affected adversely and some of these children may be considered daft by the parents or even teachers because they write things different from what the teacher would write on the board and because they can see the board or sometimes even the face of the teacher teaching it becomes very hard to grasp concepts been taught in class. They believe within themselves that how they are seeing is how everyone is seeing and as such do not act on it. On an occasion a student who was seeing the world for how beautiful and clear it is for the first time after refraction did exclaim about the beauty and how nice colors are standing out and was wondering if this is how everyone has been seeing all this while. It is therefore imperative on us to continue to do the things we do and help people like this student and bring sight to such individuals.
