Parsec Frontiers an online game about humanity's colonization of the stars and planets in the Milky Way. Starting from Earth, the actions of all players will shape the future of our galaxy. With a persistent game universe and a continually evolving timeline the race is on to explore, expand and exploit the riches to be found in other star systems.

A fully player-driven economy blockchain will allow players to mine and refine rare metals, build advanced starships and defense systems, and buy and trade resources for profit on the planetary exchanges.

The in-game currency will be Parsec Credits [PARSEC], a utility token which will also be tradable on some of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. This lowers the threshold for investing in a virtual economy, knowing that all players can cash out their in-game assets for BTC/ETH or fiat at any time.

The project is developed by Artplant – an established Norwegian/Russian game developer focused on creating advanced online games. Artplant has seen more than 25 million people play its games, and has previously created big hits such as Block N Load and Battlestar Galactica Online.

Do you have any thoughts about why having an economy backed by blockchain suddenly makes it OK to sell currency gained from an MMO when it's always been frowned on?

You mean, frowned upon by the company behind the game? The difference is in ownership. A project with decentralised ownership, owned by token holders, is more interested in a fair environment, keeping all rules transparent, and only that the project is potentially profitable for the best players instead of being a profitable business for a company.

A games company for an MMO without a blockchain wants monopoly of selling the in-game currencies, and don't want competition. Or, they want to balance it so that in-game currency purchases is not available at all - if it is a premium subscription business model.

Parsec Frontiers is a project which changes all this. Yes, it is ok to trade in the currency - because the project was funded by the original token holders who received the tokens, instead of a company investing in a project and requiring an ROI. So, that is the big difference.
