Child of Light Ultimate Edition Comes to Nintendo Switch

in #games6 years ago

Originally released way back in 2014 for the PlayStation 3 and 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and the Nintendo Wii U platforms, the Ultimate Edition of Child of Light launched on the Nintendo Switch on October 11th. Fans of 2D side scrolling action adventures, you must support the companies that make the games you like - otherwise we will see fewer and fewer of these. For the rest of you, follow me after the jump.

Child of Light deals with a dark theme, death of a child, by putting you in control of that child. Set in the fictional realm of Lemuria, your character wakes up on an alter after having died from a mysterious sickness. The world is dark due to the the evil Queen of the Night taking control of the sun, the moon, and the stars that once filled the night sky. You must stop her in order to return to your home. This is literally a fight for your life.

While not exactly like classic 2D side scrolling action adventures like Popful Mail (Sega CD) or Monster World IV (Sega Mega Drive), Child of Light has a much darker theme with more cinematic story telling elements available.

Some elements include panning camera angles as you enter new major areas, a playful fairy companion, and a much larger world to explore. Gaming advancements, aren’t they wonderful?

For me, I miss this style of game, the 2D side scrolling action adventure. It is a genre that never really took off over the years. Sure we have plenty of examples of shining lights in the genre, they are few and far between.
