GAME REVIEW : Subsistence

From hunter to hunted

Subsistence is a survival game that can be played in single player in three different levels of difficulty as well as in co-op mode with friends (or opponents). The world is limited but freely walkable and very pretty to look at. It is alive with aggressive and peaceful animals and you can even keep your own small animals. <3

Of course, subsistence is primarily about survival, and it proves to be quite a difficult affair (especially at the beginning). Resources are always scarce and it takes some effort to farm them. One should not expect to be able to produce everything in the beginning. And that it is not made too easy, I think very well!

Of course you can build your own base in this game and even, as mentioned above, keep bunnies and chickens. Many things such as a smelting furnace or a refrigerator require a power supply, things like a stove or planter require constant "firing" with resources such as wood or water & fertilizer. Nothing in the game is "free" and so you are well busy all the time.

Building and entertaining a base alone is fun, but the player also has the option of connecting an AI in the form of hunters. These unfriendly contemporaries build their own bases just like the player, and they are not alone ... They can attack the player base and, like the player, wander the world in search of resources - or a careless player who is just picking florets; )

At some point, however, the numbers of hunters are so superior that every walk in the wilderness becomes a torture. They require a bit of fine tuning in my opinion, but that's why the game is still in the EA. Luckily you can deactivate it at any time, even in the same savegame.

In conclusion I can say that the game is a lot of fun, especially because it puts the focus more on the PvE. It is Although still in the early access, but I can already make a clear buy recommendation! Subsistence is a real gem in the survival genre.
