How to cheat in almost any PC game without a trainer! Cheat Engine

Sometimes you need a money cheat or something similar but cannot find any trainer to make this happen?

In most cases there is an easy solution, called CheatEngine. Download for the developers website: http://www.cheatengine.org/

This tool allows to read and alter the data of other processes in the computer's memory, e.g. in our case we want to change some game values - like money or hit points - in the computer's memory. Some anti virus tools display a hit on this kind of memory tools, but this is by nature, as they access the memory of other processes, like some virus does.

After installing and starting up the tool and the game, it shoud look like in the picture below. Start your game and press the select application button in the top left area of the Cheat Engine Window:

Select your game application (in my demo case Command & Conquer) and press Open.

Now check ingame for the numeric value, you want to change, e.g. money, hit points etc.. Make sure the value does not change in the background, e.g. py pausing the game.

As in my demo case, my initial balance is 10000$, I will enter this value into the "Value" input field of the Cheat Engine window. To make thing easy, I also change the value type from "4 Bytes" to "All" in the drop down menu:

After pressing "First scan" (above the value input field), Cheat Engine searches the game's part of the memory for all the addresses having the value "10000" (which can be many after the first scan).

Now go into your game and change the numeric value slightly, e.g. get your character hit to lower his hit points, spend some money etc.
Pause your game and enter the new value in the Value input field of Cheat Engine. Press "Next Scan" (button right of "New Scan").

In my demo case, Cheat Engine searches for all addresses that contained 10000 before and now have a value of 9816 (my new ingame money value).
This process now has to be repeated until there are shown only one or two addresses that match the momentary value of the ingame value to be changed:

As soon as only one or two addresses are shown, select all addresses, right click and select "Chance value of selected address":

Change the value as needed.

Hints:

• There exist some alternatives to this tool which work similar, e.g. the russian ArtMoney (http://www.artmoney.ru/) or The Cheat for Mac OS X (https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13632/the-cheat).
• This works for most games, but not for all. Some developers try to protect their games from easy memory alteration. In those cases, there is still a chance to check for a solution in the huge Cheat Engine community (https://github.com/Hexorg/CheatEngineTables/tree/master/tables or http://forum.cheatengine.org or https://www.reddit.com/r/cheatengine/) The community even creates advanced trainers utilizing Cheat Engine!
• Be careful with the value you enter. If it is much too high, a negative value, too low (depending on the game) the game could crash. If that happens, carefully increase your value, e.g. by going to 999 first, if that works to 9999 etc.
• Do never cheat in multiplayer games!
