Nintendo Taking Your Lunch Money: Metroid 2 Remake 3DS

Nintendo is set to release the remake of Metroid Samus Returns on the 15th of September. This is great if you are a fan of Metroid or platformers in general. Not only that, but it tugs hard at the nostalgic tailbone when you know it is a remake of Metroid 2. Now, a special edition version of the game will include a reversible cover and a soundtrack CD called Samus Archives, featuring 25 tracks from numerous Metroid games including Samus Returns. The regular game will run at 39.99 USD and the Special Edition will be at 49.99 USD. For ten bucks the cool cover and soundtrack isn't a bad price. But, this is where the bargain stops. Let me explain.

Metroid 2 will not have all the content available on the core game. This is pretty standard stuff in the gaming industry now. DLCs are just a common practice. DLC price gouging doesn't strike well with fans and numerous companies have pulled this over time and consumers are getting wise to it(or frustrated depending on your take). For all the content to be available on Samus Returns, the buyer will have to purchase 4 Amiibo's. 2 Seperate and a set piece. The set piece is releasing with Samus Returns and it features a cool crouching Samus and Metroid. Not a bad Amiibo set really. The price has been set at 29.99 USD. The other two run around respectively 15.00 USD a piece as well. Now, the unlocked features for the game if you complete the set include things like an extra energy bar and a tougher difficulty setting called, "Fusion".

What doesn't sit well with this consumer is that they are tugging hard at the nostalgic tailbone for you to purchase a bunch of figures just to experience the full release of the 3DS title. All total, it comes to around 100.00 USD. I don't know about you guys but to me this feels a little bit like a rip-off to the customer base and just shows that Nintendo is not pulling its punches in the DLC department either. Now, I'm not going to be quick on the draw here. People can spend money on lesser products for a lot more money(or just a trip to the bar for me), so if this is something that interests you then I say go for it. Amiibos are collectible and you do get some nice figures thrown in. All total, the package doesn't look that bad. But, for some reason I just can't shake the feeling of being juked here.

Haha... our opinions are exactly the same here~

wait!! so they took up the DLC a step higher?! they require a physical product to unlock actual game content?!

As far as it is looking at the moment. Unless they release information about it being able to unlock in-game also. Have to wait and see. They just unveiled the Amiibo's with what functionality it will have in-game.
