Retro Review - Rocket Knight Adventures

It's incredible the great amount of good games that over the years have been forgotten by their developers, there are very well known cases, however there are others that have gone quite unnoticed, or at least I think so, and although the game that I'm going to speak to you, after many years later its creators tried to bring it back to market, but this time focused on the other generation, failed outright to change the design, personality and essence that characterized it so much.

The game I'm telling you about is nothing more than the classic: Rocket Knight Adventures.

The story of Rocket Knight Adventures is quite simple, in this game we take control of Sparkster, our main protagonist, he is a strange mammal who wears a fairly technologically advanced armor, has thrusters and a sword, in turn Sparkster is part of a group of strong warriors who are responsible for defending his kingdom. In this world there is a very valuable object called "Seal Key", whose value and power is very high, so many want to have that object under their power. Because of this, Alex Gear enters the scene, an old "Rocket Knight" like our main protagonist, with the different that the latter has been corrupted by evil and kidnaps the princess of the kingdom of Elhorn in order to obtain the "Seal Key". Therefore as a good hero and good warrior of the kingdom, Sparkster's duty and therefore ours is to rescue the princess.

Graphically this game is spectacular, being a 16-bit game Rocket Knight Adventures has a great level of design and details in each of its scenarios and equally, in the characters that appear in each of them. This is a quite colorful game, where as I said before, emphasizes much the great quality and care in many of its scenarios, so that the game creates a universe very optimal and suitable for the view, which makes it that even today, after almost 26 years of its release remains a game that has been able to overcome the challenge of time and that remains very current and even looks pretty good by current standards of video games.

The animations of the characters are quite fluid and have a certain level of naturalness and speed, because being a game where the stage are appearing enemies and several objects at the same time, this game needs a good level of fluidity to be properly complemented with the gameplay.

Another strong point in this game in its sonorous aspect, in Rocket Knight Adventures we can find a good quality of sound effects and melodies that accompany us during all our adventure, with very several melodies and that many of them adapt and fit in a very good way with the scenes or with the events that are happening, creates a suitable atmosphere so that we don't get bored when we are playing.

With a fairly simple gameplay, Rocket Knight Adventures is characterized as a side-scrolling adventure game, a videogame genre that was very popular in the old days of videogame and although at that time the videogame industry was, to some extent, saturated with games of this style, Rocket Knight Adventures knew how to stand out among the large number of titles and in such a way could create its large number of fans and at the same time be a game very recognized and loved by many people around the world.

Our main protagonist, Sparkster, has a very simple operation and easy to learn, as we only have a few buttons that will allow us to perform each of the actions that our protagonist is able to do, such as jump, attack or use the jet, in turn Sparkster is able to make certain special attacks such as turning envelopes itself by making attacks are his sword or make a charge thanks to his propellant or jet.

Rocket Knight Adventures is one of those games whose re-playability is very satisfying, since once you've completed the game for the first time, you'll always want to repeat it to complete it with a higher amount of points or complete the game in a shorter amount of time. These are the few games that even today, after many years are kept because at the time they were titles that knew how to captivate their audience and do excellent development work.
