RE: Top 7 Game Industry Blunders

in #gaming6 years ago

That was a really interesting video, nice work putting it together.

My views on the gaming scene blunders match yours very closely, so it's good to hear other people talking about them, but it does make me facepalm so hard wondering what might have been if certain people had tried to think of the consequences to their actions and greed.

On the matter of greed, I personally think that the free2play scene is one of the biggest blunders in gaming history. The conception was honourable enough, and a really good idea; to make games that everyone can play, even if they cannot buy it - but have in-game purchases to support the developers. Unfortunately, greed took over and soon everyone from the publishers down to the developers stopped asking 'how do we make this game fun' but instead 'how do we get money from it'. The micro-transaction scandals and lootbox madness are just a result of people making games, not for fun or enjoyment, but making games for money.

(Note: I do understand that a game has to make money in order to survive but at some point, many developers and publishers just lost sight of what they were making games for.)
