It is a future action video game in the third person that is being developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Its launch will be on April 20, 2018, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.1 console. It will be the eighth installment of the God of War series, chronologically, and the sequel to God of War III, as a reboot of the saga. The story will focus on Nordic mythology and Kratos will return as the main protagonist.


History

Several years have passed since Kratos took his revenge against the Olympian Gods. Having survived the final fight against his father Zeus, Kratos now lives with his young son Atreus in the world of the Nordic Gods, a hostile land inhabited by fierce monsters and warriors. Kratos should act as a mentor and protector of his son, and will have to master the anger he had for many years ..

Announcement at E3 2016

On June 13, 2016 at Sony's press conference at E3, a gameplay of almost ten minutes of a new God of War was shown.2 In this preview it showed a more mature Kratos who was the father of a child called Atreus, who is teaching him to fight and hunt. During their training they see how they face magical creatures and even giant beasts, all belonging to Norse mythology. The video game is under the direction of Cory Barlog, who repeats his position after God of War II.


Game mode

One of the most notorious changes in the gameplay is that of the camera, which goes from being panoramic to being placed behind the back of Kratos. Cory Barlog has referred to this change as the one that was previously made in the Resident Evil franchise.3

A novel aspect in the gameplay is the possibility that Atreus can level up in the course of the game, which will make it learn new skills that will help Kratos. It was also confirmed that this character will not be playable and that only Kratos will be controlled throughout the game.4

Launching

On January 23, 2018, through a trailer, the game's release date was officially announced on April 20, 2018.
