Cthulhu Saves The World is a role playing game. It is developed by the same developers as Breath of Death VII; which I played earlier on my A-Z Steam Journey. The appeal of this game is that you play as, well, Cthulhu.

Not the all powerful, terror of the deep. For in the game's introduction you're struck down my some sort of affliction, a curse from a mysterious man, and you've lost all your powerful... powers. As a result, in order to regain your terrifying stature and ability to render mere mortals insane, you must become a hero.

The writing in Cthulhu Saves The World is absolutely exquisite. It is full of dark humour, wit, and this is more than just a top-down RPG with a retro-art style and flair. It's a comedic delight, with amusing, clear, well written dialogue throughout.

There's even a mode with developer "commentary" (through question mark NPCs scattered around the map, which explain the design choices that were made by the developer.

It is thoroughly entertaining as a result, and shares a lot with Breath of Death VII, such as the game engine, battle mechanics, and levelling system - but everything else is pretty unique and has enough of a visual identity to be its own game.

This is the type of game that I would have loved to have back in the days when my primary gaming device was a Gameboy Advance, and the games I had my disposal were things like Golden Sun, Fire Emblem and other RPGs of the time.

It would have also worked on the SNES - if it could be crammed down into catridge form.

It's a great game, and something that if you like good writing, and RPGs, you should definitely wrap your tentacled hands around.
