It was like yesterday, I was just 9 years old and Alex just bought his Famicom game. Alex use to be our next-door neighbor, His favourite game was Super Mario and contract. Having used to seeing Him play Super Mario, I fell in love with Super Mario.

Super Mario use to be the most popular adventure game in the eighties and nineties, not many people could afford a Famicom game during the eighties here in Nigeria and so you could only find a Famicom game only in the home of the wealthy individuals back then in my country. Not long afterwards, during the mid nineties almost every home could then afford it, following this new innovation was Super Mario, it was the favourite game in almost every home. Kids gist about it in school, they talk about the difficult stages and how to break through it, they also talk about cheats in the game and lots more.

Super Mario was developed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka and released in 1985 for the Famicom console and in 1987 for the NES console. Takashi Tezuka has designed and featured on numerous game development, among them are Devil World, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Star fox 64, Yoshi Story, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Wii Music, Yoshi's New Island, Yoshi's Woolly World, Arms, Hey pickmin and quite a lot of them. The music for Super Mario was composed by Koji Konjo.

GAMEPLAY
The player controls the protagonist Mario as he race through the mushroom kingdom. The objective of the game is to get through the antagonist Bowser's forces in other to save Princess Toadstool. The game also feature two player game control, where player one control Mario and player two control Luigi in a bid to save Princess Toadstool. The game is a side scrolling platformer, where the the player move from the left side of the screen to the right hand side of the screen towards the flag end of each level.

Game Feature
The game feature coins scattered around the game for Mario to collect in special bricks, on question mark bricks, then there is the secret bricks which contains special features like the Super Mushroom, Lives green spotted orange, The invisibility Star, Fireballs flower and so on.

When Mario hits a question mark brick and gets a Super Mushroom, he doubles in size and eventually gains the ability to break bricks and his jump power also increases. If Mario get hit in this state instead of dying he will reduce back to his normal size.

Player starts each game with a 1-up life, as Mario proceed in the game he may choose to increase his life by hitting the green spotted orange which enables him to live longer in the game, the more green spotted orange he hits the more he gets to live.

The invisibility star when gotten enables Mario to run pass through enemies for a short while destroying them without any hurt.

The game also features power up which contains fire balls allowing Mario to fire projectiles at the enemy.

Mario loses a live when he gets hit while he is small, when he runs or jump into a bottomless pit and when he runs out of time. The game ends when Mario lost all his lives.
