Xenowerk: Fighting Through The Aftermath Of A Horrible Scientific Experiment

So I've been in need of an action game for a while and having been stuck with the oldies and the popular, I had to get out of my shell and explore new Worlds. I suck at PUBG, but I'll get better enough to start writing on it. Well, Xenowerk it was!

It is a Pixelbite game which aims to keep your heart at a steady fast pace throughout the 70 levels you're gonna have to fight through. The objective is pretty straightforward,

Eliminate the mutants

They are the aftermath of a an experiment gone wrong in an underground science lab - which is the area of exploration. Apparently, its a vast space jam-packed with a plethora of unfriendly, blood-hungry monsters. So for all they care, you're meat.

THE JOURNEY

You're set off with a female character equipped with a basic armor and they are just about 8 of them. This character also has two gun slots which are expectedly equipped with the least of all the devastating machines in the inventory. There are surprisingly alot. We have about 15 coins to begin with but there really isn't any use for them, even if you want to. Items on sale have a significant different in price to what the pocket can afford. So in the mean time, it's basically useless. Maybe when we complete a level, we get huge rewards to compensate, who knows?

There's no backstory (video) to it, but as far as we now know, I am to investigate what has happened to the research facility. The silent alarms have gone off and cameras are offline. We are starting out from the point it all plays out. Our loadout comprises the Brutus Knocker and the Archer Compact. On start, we're are shown the basic controls and how we go about everything. To shoot, we just have to move and drag to the specific direction - the Miini Militia kinda thing. On Pause, we have the map that shows the whole layout of the area, and some red dots which I'm not quite sure what they are - if they are the mutants, then it means we have just 8 to deal with. And then, the starting level is not really expansive.

She (the character) sports what looks like a blue jacket and Jean on a green long sleeve, with a maroon-coloured cap to complement - doesn't look like an armor to me. She has a long golden curly ponytail that slips outta the back and jiggles on movement. We are spawned into the scene by an elevator which pretty much reveals the gloomy ambience, albeit not in entirety, it's still sane enough. She has a bright flashlight that hangs over her back, illuminating the whole environment with a wide focus point (They didn't mention that the power was out too). The Brutus Knocker functions like a shotgun, with a short firing range but looks like it can deal great damages. The Archer Compact fires like an Ak-47 with really good reload time. Then we also have an icon that (on-drag) unveils the armor abilities, for now, which is for the basic armor, we have a speed mode function and a heal ability. I'm not quite sure how to use them.

There's really no where to pan the camera which is a tad-bit frustrating. They are making it clear that the left side in all areas, is for the movement while the other is for firing shots from your equipped weapon. We can only recalibrate the camera's position at best. As we moved further into the research lab, growling and snarls could be heard before small grotesque looking creatures come running at her. She reflexively fires at them with the Archer Compact which killed them after about 8 hits, quite a low damage we have there. Death is fun to watch I can say, imagine a last shot which seems to strike an artery that pumps out a greenish fluid and drains your target until he falls flat, motionless before disappearing into oblivion. Well, I'm not sure why I'm terming them with a 'he', it's not like they have a Tag

If I'm to go by my map, we have four monsters to kill. After perusing the area for more mutants, she finally finds a red, weird and angry creature which lunges at her and takes a great percentage out of her health before it is brought down. Her heart could be heard now, audibly palpitating, well enough to signal an imminent death if.. Oh! Wait, the health regenerative abilities of the armor. For some reason or the other, it's not working. There's definitely more to it. I think it's time to equip the Brutus Knocker, she can't take chances any longer. And I just completed a crucial objective which was to download the log from the working terminal. Now, she just has to make her way to the elevator.

The Brutus Knocker came through as it knocked the life out of the remaining mutants. The constant and increasing palpitation of the heartbeat of the character is meant to get the player on the edge of his seat, which is good, but then, the red overlay that clouds the screen and gradually makes it hard to see through could come off as unpleasant. It could have been kept at bay. Nevertheless, we made it through to the next stage and for our effort, we are rewarded with 220 coins! Huge? Relatively...

It was a good play.
