Happy Monday

How was your weekend? Great? I hope so. Last three days, I reviewed a video game series named Golden Axe. I hope that you enjoyed when reading my articles. If you're bored with Golden Axe series, don't worry because today I'm about to review another video game but it still includes in Sega Genesis Collection. The reason why I'm doing this because last two days I read a comment in my article and the guy who wrote the comment said that He loved to play "Shinobi" video game. However, I don't know which video that he meant because there are a lot of video games about Shinobi. So, In this article, the video game that I'm about to review is "The Revenge of Shinobi". Enjoy it.

The Revenge of Shinobi was developed and released by Sega in 1989. The video game was made for Sega Genesis and it becomes the first Shinobi video game that was aimed for Sega Genesis. Later, the developer team made this video game for another platform named Sega Mega-Tech which is an arcade system and based on the Mega Drive/Genesis architecture. In Japan, this video game was known as The Super Shinobi. In 2009, the version of Wii Virtual console was released. Then, three years later, the video game was also available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Gameplay

The Revenge of the Shinobi adapted a side-scrolling platform game. The Shinobi name who the player controls is Joe Musashi. Then, the player must accomplish eight different districts which are in other video games called stages. After finishing all of the districts, the player is gonna face the final match with the leader of Neo Zeed. It's not as simple as you think because each district consists of three scenes or you can call it as sub-district. Two of scenes are side-scrolling platforms while the third is a battle against a district boss.

There is some performance that the player can do. For example, by pressing button A, the player can perform ninjutsu techniques. Button B is for performing an attack while button C is for jumping. The player also can perform somersault which is a key move in this video game. By performing a somersault, the player can maximize the jumping and release eight shuriken at the same time in mid-air. Moreover, in the certain district, it is composed of multiple layers such as Military Base and the freeway.

If you think Joe Musashi can only perform standard moves such as jumping, attacking, and somersault, you're wrong because Joe Musashi has four special ninjutsu techniques. Unfortunately, the player can only perform one ninjitsu in each stage except the player can find and pick up a ninjutsu item or the ninjitsu of Mijin was used. For example, in the first stage, the player can call the lightning and this light covers Joe Musashi's body.

Furthermore, the player also can get some bonus while playing the game. For example, the player must destroy crates to get the bonus or seek in some hidden in the scenery. These bonuses include extra shuriken and health packs. It is the same as the player obtains lives or extra ninjutsu item. But, the player must be careful because it's not all crates containing bonuses but time bombs. The bomb will explode if the player comes too close to the bomb.

The challenges of this video game are not only fighting the enemies, bosses, or bombs but also the level of the difficulty. This video game groups the level difficulty into four type. If the difficulty has increased, Joe Musashi suffers more damage when getting hit by the enemies. In addition, in the options menu, the player can adjust how many starting shuriken that will be used.

Plot

The time setting of the video game is three years after the first series which is "Shinobi". The criminal organization named Zeed has been defeated. But, this criminal organization never gives up to terrorize the people. These bad guys reformed the organization to become a new one which is called Neo Zeed. They take revenge for the Oboro Ninja clan and Joe Musashi. Joe's master is killed and his bride is kidnapped by Neo Zeed. Then, Joe makes a decision to travel the world to take revenge on Neo Zeed and saves his bride.

My Opinion

I have explained some important information about this video game and also played this video game. Now, it's time for me to write what I'm thinking about this video game. The storyline of the video game is quite good because it's all about revenge and saving the beloved one. What I like the most is the gameplay which. The player can perform many attacks to defeat the enemies. Especially the player can perform ninjutsu that is a very cool attack. Then, the difficulty level makes this video game more challenging.
