Gameplay

Street Fighter II: Champion Edition still adapts the traditional rules which based on its predecessor released in 1987. The player can choose the character that they want but they cannot choose who the opponent is because it's done by the computer automatically. Then, it's one-by-one fighting game. Each match consists two rounds. To be a winner, the player should win twice. There will be third round if each fighter has won one time. Then, there is no special mission in this video game that the player must accomplish.

Characters

The characters in this series have been extended. In the World Warrior series, there are four Grand Masters that are not playable namely, Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison. Those Grand Maser are controlled by the CPU exclusively. On the other hand, those characters can be played in Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. The Grand Masters are special because they are stronger than that of standard characters.

Like in many video games, characters have the standard ability and special ability. For the standard ability, it's like kicking, punching, and jumping. For special ability, each character has their own special ability. For example, character Ryu can release like-blue fire. If the opponent gets hit by it, the health will decrease even they defend. Another example is Dhalsim who can extend his leg thus the opponent must keep the distance if face him.

Graphics and Audio

The graphics in Street Fighter II: Champion Edition has been improved, especially for the background. Then, all characters portraits and endings were redrawn including the Grand Master as well. In the ending, it will appear scrolling text along with the music. In addition, the face of Ryu in his ending was redrawn thus he looks like more serious. The face of Eliza who is Ken's fiance is given a more-realistic design. Then, Chun-Li's clothes were also redrawn.
