That's a great idea! I grew a pumpkin vine once by literally tossing an old pumpkin into compost pile of old leaves, grass, and a variety of other kitchen compost goods. It was working well enough that it attracted a variety of yard critters that had a feast on the seeds and flowers. I was a little bummed, but it gave them a meal I suppose!
