Munchin’ on muskmelons in the food forest this morning! Cheers!
The wave of melons continues in our urban food forest. Super sweet!!!!! Nice way to start the morning with home grown melon water!!!! We are out harvesting and munching! If you scroll through the images you can see a few ways we are growing them. We are growing them under and up fruit trees and vertically up walls and other structures.
These are hybrid crosses from melons we ate earlier in the spring. We composted the melons with our worms...and spread their castings in certain areas of the forest. From those castings sprang these melons...that all cross pollinated each other. Each melon we are picking has its own peculiar taste and look. Some crosses turn out more cucumber tasting...but these little ladies came through with more muskmelon sweetness!
Cheers to the end of summer and cheers to.... our food freedoms.... Steepshot and Steem blockchain!
Oh yum! I haven’t tried to grow them here in Alaska myself, but my grandpa grew watermelons and cantaloupes.
wow...that's so cool....your grandpa...grew them there. the french have been playing around with muskmelon varieties....at their latitude....for a long time. i'm super fascinated by their cultivars. if you ever give it a go...perhaps genetics...like these..would help. :) cheers @alaskahippie ! thanks for stopping by :) https://www.rareseeds.com/charentais-melon/
