The Challenge

October is running to its end. The 6th edition of the SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge was announced a little late this month, but fortunately I managed to write this winner's announcement post before November starts.

This edition, we received a good number of entries which you can all find in the comments section of the official contest post: 🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge 6 - October 2018 (Join Or Resteem And Win)

Maybe it is because winter is coming here in Belgium, and there is not a lot left in my own garden, but it felt like enjoyed reading all posts even more. I really need a little green in my life, even if it's on the other side of the world. :0)

🏆The Prizes🏆

As usual, I gave every submitted post a 100% upvote from my personal account.

I had set a @steem-bounty as a way to reward all valid entries, and everyone who posted a link to his post in the comments thread within the 7 day payout period, has received a small amount of SBD, just to say thanks.

It has become a tradition to reward authors of the two posts I liked best with 3SBD each. I must admit, it was not an easy decision to make this time; there were a lot of very good entries.

Another tradition is that I reward 2 randomly chosen resteemers with a @steembasicincome share. Without them, this contest would probably get less response. By helping to get the word out about it, all people who resteem the contest are very valuable to me.

A membership of @steembasicincome will basically give you 1 share in the initiative, which will give you a small upvote on all your posts. The more shares you get, the more this upvote will be worth. You can read more about the @Steembasicincome initiative here.

The Contestants

This month, we had 13 contestants, which is more than for the previous editions. It could be because I used the @steem-bounty, but I think the main reason is that there are a lot of gardeners on SteemIt that live in the Southern hemisphere, and for them, the good times are only just beginning.

I want to personally thank @frejafri, @exator, @wildwanderer, @freedomwing, @phoenixwren, @aurodivys, @celinavisaez, @abitcoinskeptic, @mariannewest, @porters, @lynncoyle1 and her beautiful balcony, @buckaroo and @crazymum for submitting their October garden update.

As you can see, it was again a nice mix between regular participants, new participants and returning participants.

I really enjoyed reading everyone’s post. I could simply feel the enthusiasm and the love for gardening. Once again, I fell in love with everyone’s garden...

If you love your garden - no matter how big or how small it is - I probably won’t have to tell you that you are all winners.

If you’re a bit like me you know how easy instant happiness can be: a flower that blooms, a delicious, homegrown fruit to pick, finding a ladybug walking around... They don’t come any better than that, right?!

The Winners

For some reason, it was even harder to select the top 2 posts this time, because there were so many good entries.

The winners are...

@frejafri's Nomad Garden Journal - October

@frejafri, I was completely blown away by your post and knew from the start you would be one of the winners. Congratulations!

For the second winner, I simply couldn't make up my mind. After going back and forth between the two posts, I realized that I had to bend the rules a bit. Because I couldn't choose between these two posts, I decided that for this time only, I would choose 3 winners instead of 2.

Splitting the 3SBD seemed a little unfair, so I decided to reward both posts with 2SBD each (if that is ok with you?!).

Congratulations to all winners. I've sent your prizes to your wallets.

Resteem rewards

I want to thank everyone who resteemed the contest post to help to get the word out about this challenge.

To pick 2 random winners, I entered all names into a random name picker. The 2 people that will receive a @steembasicincome share are:

@celinavisaez
and
@muhammadnuman786

The shares have been sponsored.

If you had @steembasicincome shares already, you won't receive an update, but you can look up how many shares you have with the SBI new lookup tool, od which you can find all information here. If you hadn't you will receive a confirmation in your wallet. This can take a couple of days.

Keep Posting Garden Updates

The next edition of the Garden Journal 2018 will be posted in a week or two, so keep an eye on my blog.

TIP: If you want to make sure you don't miss out, you can add the #gardenjournal2018 tag to Ginabot on Discord. She'll then notify you whenever a new post with the tag is published. Or you can subscribe to my RSS feed or my newsletter - you'll find both links underneath my signature.

Feel free to use the #gardenjournal2018 tag for every garden update you post, whether a challenge is running or not. I will be notified of every post that uses that tag, and since I’m very curious by nature, I want to follow up as much as I can. It will also make it easier for you to find your own garden updates and experience the feeling of accomplishment when you can see it grow, week after week, month after month.

I really enjoyed looking at your garden! Such a vast contrast to gardens in our area --especially this time of year. Everything is cleaned up. The salsa is in the pantry to enjoy through our crazy cold winter that is coming. It's just wonderful seeing all that food growing in all it's vibrant colors! Congrats on your well deserved win!!

Thanks for another great post, @wildwanderer

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 20 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 10 SBD worth and should receive 131 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Totally right!!

Here's my happy moment today; this 'living wall plant' was near dead when we got here. It's literally tied to the post that holds the palapa up, with tiny nests of soil for the plants. I've been misting them regularly, and noticed this today! The landlord said they're miniature orchids of some kind :)

Thanks again @simplymike :)

Oooh, so cool!

Cool. Gardens are places of healing and nature is just love!

Wow, thank you! I am so honored to have won this contest! It was extra magic, because when I got to the drumroll a REAL drumroll of a crazy blow of wind came on! (we have a storm here in Italy right now! End of the warm autumn!) Super dramatic!! Couldn't be better!
I am very thankful and excited!

it was a victory that came with all bells and whistles, lol.
I really loved your post, so it was well-deserved :0)

Congrats to the winners! Though I agree that we all win by getting to experience our beautiful gardens, too! <3

We do, indeed
