Germany will Tighten Motion Space up

Facebook user data abuse scandal prompted the Japanese government to be more assertive.

German Justice Minister Katarina Barley said it would tighten regulation and threats of penalties for Facebook.

The move was taken after the government held a meeting with representatives of Facebook. According to him, the Facebook party in the meeting acknowledged the violation of user data privacy on their platform.
"Facebook recognizes past violations and excesses and will guarantee that it will not happen again," he said.

But he says promises alone are not enough, so the government takes a step more firmly. "In the future, we have to manage companies like Facebook more closely," he added.

According to the Facebook reveal about 1 percent of 300 thousand user data collected by Cambridge Analytica originated from Europe. Facebook party itself does not specify how many of the 1 percent is based in Germany.
Before the government took a stand, the latest German magazine Focus survey reported almost half of Facebook users there considering closing their accounts. Mark Zuckerberg's company previously promised to contact all users whose data are abused by Cambridge Analytica.
