Wild Baby Rabbits Are In Abundance

in #ghsc6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone! This post is going to be a light one, because I am working on more in depth ones for this weekend. Today and the last couple of weeks, we have been doing a little mowing and trimming around the homestead. Working around the fruits and grape vines.

Well specifically, we were moving down our strawberry plants. The weeds had taken them over and so we were going to move everything down to give the plants a chance against the weeds. We started by trying to pull weeds before mowing and I am glad we did.

Upon looking around, we found some tufts of hair and grass in a hole. After inspecting, we found out that it was a nest of baby rabbits. 5 or 6 of these little guys were crammed in the hole virtually out in the open. Here is a picture of one of the little guys.

So to ensure their safety, we moved the rabbits temporarily out of the hole so that we could mow the little patch. After mowing, we securely placed them back in their little cubby and covered it back over. I won’t be long before we are seeing them running all over our homestead and I cannot wait. Usually, the wild rabbits are very friendly and will get within just a few feet of us.

Thanks for stopping by!

We have lots of cottontails here. We see one each night as it goes up the edge of the driveway heading barnwards, right at suppertime.

They are fun to watch running around all over the place. I am just glad they are leaving the garden alone. Haha!

My veg gardens and the New Herb garden are fenced, but the 37 flowerbeds are not... So far, in 35 years, it's not been a problem...knock wood!
