After the December 16, 2012 gangrape and murder, which became a global news, followed by Kathua rape case in January 2018, India has created a new ordinance in 2018. According to the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, death penalty can be given for rape of girls under 12. Whereas for the rape of a girl under 16, the jail term has been increased from 10 years to 20 years.
