1/2 Thai Baht of gold jewelry for Mothers Days

in #gold6 years ago

Mother silverstakeruk sure is a lucky mum because she has 2 mothersdays. Im from the UK so for me it is the first Sunday of each March and i always get my mum something decent but Mrs Silverstackeruk has from Thailand and they celebrate mothers day on 12th of August every year as this date shares the birthday with the thai royal Queen. Thai people take the royal family super serious, no fucking about. Evening stepping on a coin to stop it rolling away could land you a slap are few hours in jail if seen by a police officer. There are pictures everywhere of the royal family. I lived there for just over a year and i can not recall one building meaning anything with a roof that did not have a picture of the King in the front room.

This looks like of a normal gold shop. They tend to cover the walls in a blanket of gold chains and display rings, blacelets and earrings in the counter cabinets. There can be a gold shops found every couple of hundred meters in the city and every village even in the sticks would have multiple shops are door to door sellers. Proper old school.

We all know about mene and it being investment gold, i like mene stuff and plan to buy some in the future but this is real investment gold. This gold is as good as money in Thailand and can be used as collateral with most banks and any gold shop. This is from the gold shop my wife used to use when she was growing up and she still orders from the same shop through email. Its arrives in a simple red baggie.

I opened up the baggie up to find a plastic ball from a 50p toy machine you would find in a shopping center. This is thai style, its like who gives a shit about a nice presentation box when you can put it into a plastic ball and sell it cheaper. Pure ma and pop style.

I opened it up to see what it was and found a necklace and set of earrings. What can i say, they are not something i would wear. I was more interested in the gold content. So, this is 1/2 thai baht of gold. To ballpark it, 1 baht of gold is equal to around a 1/2 troy oz. So this is around a quarter troy oz are 7.58 grams of gold. This cost around 9% over spot and can be used as collateral in any gold shop upto 90% spot. This is common is Thailand were people might sell some gold to pay a big bill are buy something, the shop they sell to holds it and they pay the loan back. When the loan is paid, they get the gold back and if they default, they lose the gold. It is basically the small loan banking system over there because the shops can undercut the banks.

Here is the cert that came with it. It shows the date, the shop address, the weight, the purity, seller number and sellers code. The blue stamp comes from the gold shop also. Im not to sure what all the terms are attached to the red bulletins but im sure it not very interesting.

Cant see to see my mums face when she gets this. Thing is my mum only wears sterling silver and white gold so it'll be fun to see plus she has no idea. Its not like normal mothers day when she is expecting something, this should be a complete surprise :D

Sort:

Wow.. It's a very nice gift that we can give to the mother

It is the wife's doing, i had no idea until it arrived today. lol.

I like the colour of hai gold :)

I didn't know they had mother's day in august in Thailand. That's cool that you're giving her a second gift. And it's a nice one at that. I hope you gets lots of points for it.

The wife bought it around a month back but i had no idea until today. She bought 2 and is posting the other one to her mum in Germany :)

I asked her '' Does dad's get gold on Father day?'' She asked, my dad is dead, haha. 😜

In Brazil, Mother's Day is on the second Sunday on May...Father's Day is next Sunday.
