Sunset in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

in #goldenhourphotography6 years ago (edited)

Brian and I had a wonderful day today, just celebrating life, and the sunset seemed to agree :)

It seemed as though a storm was brewing...

but it turned into a show of colors instead!

I turned in a complete circle on the rooftop...

and from every angle it was stunning!

The sky stole the show...even from the ocean:)

Playa del Carmen is really heaven on earth and I wanted to share it with all of you :) Hope you enjoyed it!

nice skyes there , Gulf with the water . Its not a port of entry but would like to sail there . one day . supposed to have some good diving there to .

The island of Cozumel is a port of entry and I can see it from the roof :) The diving around that island is amazing too; world renowned actually; snorkeling too!

I read up on it a while back and I put it on my gulf trip bucket list . Its part of my 1st hurricane season place to stay . all I need to do is execute the plan .

haha "hurricane season place to stay"...most of the time, the hurricane warnings seem to be for tourists only. The locals carry on as usual.

Well execute dammit! We'd love to meet you in person :)

LOL They don't let me out without an escort . We would love to take a trip down to see y'all . and I'm just not saying that . I would love to take the wife anywhere even just for a couple days or weekend trip . You are a week late Brain already invited us . LOL We will see .

hahaha Of course he invited you...we are two peas in a pod that way! Bring your escort too then haha

Beautiful my friend!

Thank you @smylie2005! You must have seen some beauties on your trip I would think? :)

Of course! But theres something about storm clouds at sunset. Poor Cali doesnt get much rain! It sprinkled once in the 2 weeks that we were there. But I got lots of clear beautiful skies!

Of course, they're in a continual drought these days...duh! : :)

Hey, I got your song challenge, and will get to it, but I took a day and a bit off, and am playing catch-up big time haha

Glad to hear you had another good day @lynncoyle and you got the bonus prize of that beautiful sunset.

I really must get around to looking up where Playa del Carmen actually is. I have an idea but I'm not sure. 😁

Hope you both have another great day! 💙

Thanks @gillianpearce! And I'll save you the trouble :)

Ha, ha, ha @lynncoyle1. It is completely NOT where I thought it was!😁

I thought it was on the other side along with Cancun and Cozumel. Not sure how I got that all so wrong. 😂

Are you able to get a boat over to Cuba these days or is that the Guantanamo Bay end?

haha @gillianpearce, but perhaps "Map Reading" should be your next class ... we are 40 minutes south of Cancun, and I can see Cozumel from my rooftop :)

You know I'm simply teasing you right?...about the map reading class haha

Actually I'm very good at map reading @lynncoyle1. It's the memory that's failing me. I simply haven't looked at a map of Mexico for years so remembered incorrectly. 😁

Beautiful photos, Lynn

Thank you @moderndragon ;)

Ach, did it again lol. Was just reading your love story post when you posted the photos. Sunsets are one of my favourite things!

haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! It really was amazing to see ;)

Thank you @moderndragon. I was in awe :)

Amazing! Have you tried panorama? This reminded me of a view of the sky where it is filled with mushroom like clouds but colorful ones. I'm sure I wasn't high then haha! I want to share it with you the photo that I took but I can't remember what CD I burned that. It is a challenge to capture in camera how beautiful the real thing is.

Do you know what? Brian and I each had a beautiful Nikon camera with a wide angle lens, but we sold them before moving here! We were desperately trying to get rid of everything and come here with just a backpack each and a suitcase, and our cat lol. At the time, we weren't on steemit, so we figured taking pictures from our phone would be good enough.

How I wish I had that camera again :)

So "panorama"? I think I can just snap photos with my phone and then put them in panoramic mode? or ...

OMG, I just found the 'panoramic' button on my phone!!! I took a photo in the house to try it...AMAZING! Thank you so much @leeart, I had no idea that even existed haha

Ah too bad about the cameras but geeat that you found out about pano lol! What i do is that i take several pix and then stitch them together later on in photoshop. That is another trick. However, using the pano feature is more convenient.

Thank you again! Like most things I do, I'm taking pano shots of everything, and going totally overboard with it all haha

Very beautiful sky, these are photos without a filter?

I just took them with my phone, but "sharpened" them a wee bit on my computer. It really did look exactly like that!! I've never seen anything like it :) I just kept turning in circles, looking crazy for the work man up there fixing the pool haha

I remember the nights my wife and I stayed up the road outside of Cancun and off the hotel strip in La Amada. It was new then, just opened up I believe, so our room was in steep discount to attract customers. From our veranda, you could see the ocean, and there was always an ocean breeze, so it was nice to just sit there watching the sunset. Nothing nearly as spectacular as what you captured here, and part of the days it was completely overcast so we didn't see the sunset, but it was still one of the best vacations we've ever had.

It's hard to beat the views and the climate of Quintana Roo. Except for the occasional hurricane. Then, maybe not so fun. :)

That sounds lovely Glen! You really can't beat this area for its' beauty, and now most places come equipped with hurricane shutters; so it's only a matter of hunkering down and crossing your fingers :)

In the last 20 or so years, I can only think of maybe twice that the area was threatened by a hurricane. One I know of for sure, because it struck some weeks before I went down with a friend to the Cancun area for the first time (when we actually stayed in Playa). The next would have been more recent than that but I'm sure if it actually hit anything or not. So, as far as hurricanes go, it's about as safe a place as any. I wouldn't want to be living in the Gulf of Mexico around Louisiana or Houston to Galveston, though. :)

We seem to get "threatened" here, but I don't take it too seriously because I watch the locals carrying on like normal. When I see them pulling out the plywood and covering windows, then I worry. I think it's always just a "tourist" warning of sorts.

Brian and I did a road trip a few years ago and went through Galveston and we were in awe of the houses built on stilts. An obvious sign of regular flooding. We also made our way to New Orleans and saw first hand the hurricane damage that had occurred 3 years prior. We saw duplexes with one side fully occupied, and the other with full trees growing from within, out the windows. It was terribly sad actually...they'd been completely forgotten.

Wow, that suddenly turned very heavy!

I would hope that land would be incredibly cheap in those areas, but that's probably not the case, nor the home insurance, unless they don't cover hurricanes. Even so, it's one of the reasons why we stay where we are because it's tough to find the combination of natural beauty and temperate weather. We're probably about due for another major wind event (the last one is known as the Columbus Day storm back in the early 60s), but hopefully that will stay away for a while longer. We've had a few small tornadoes do some relatively minor damage, but otherwise, it's mostly flooding and black ice. The former happened quite a bit 20 years ago. Now, not so much. The latter, too. We haven't had an ice storm for probably 10 years.

So, it's not Playa weather, but it's home. :)

After talking with a few people in New Orleans, it sounded like "help" never really fully arrived and a lot of folks just up and left with whatever insurance money they received. So there was no plan in place to clean up "those" messes.

So, it's not Playa weather, but it's home. :)

That's all that really matters !!

I see. We don't seem to get the same coverage after the fact as we do during the catastrophe, though I'm sure the story of the aftermath and what continues to happen has been repeated on the local news. I suppose the people there are ultimately the ones who will have to deal with it. Sad, though, that it was such a mess and continues to be such a mess. Even though it's a hurricane area, people weren't prepared, and the local government didn't do a whole lot to protect lives or property. I suppose what you can do is limited, but those levies should have held. Because they gave way, more damage was done. They should have been sufficient to weather the storm, or why have them providing nothing more than false security?

GORGEOUS shots, Lynn! Thanks so much for sharing the beauty!

Thank you @traciyork! I really was in awe :)

I can see why! And you're very welcome! ❤️

What a beautiful sunset! It's a great way to end the day enjoying God's masterpiece. Hugs to you and Brian :)

Exactly @alimamasstory!! It is indeed a masterpiece :) Thank you for the hugs too :)

This images are so insanely powerful! The colors dancing through the sky are absolutely magical. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Thank you so much for that description :) It really was a thing of pure beauty!
