Google, stop with tablets: deleted the last two products in development

in #google5 years ago

Google's plans for the near future do not contain any tablets, and the two models he was working on were removed from the roadmaps. After snubbing the category for all of 2019, the firm verified the two news at Computerworld. In 2018, instead, Pixel Slate had been published (with Chrome OS), working on two smaller models being developed. However, since then, the decision has only come to concentrate on notebooks.

According to the source, Google announced the end of all development work on tablets to staff on June 19 (defined as phones that are totally separated from a keyboard or do not have a physical keyboard), emphasizing that those who were working on a category item will be allocated to another division. The source writes: "The news was disclosed last Wednesday at an inner conference and Google is presently working on reassigning staff in other fields that have concentrated on deserted projects. Many of them have already shifted to the same hardware division's notebook branch." The reasons for the abandonment are not evident, but Google has never been able to compete directly with the "top" pro. After some interesting models in the past, by Google, it seemed clear that the multinational company's interest in the product category was gradually declining (together with that shown by other manufacturers).

Google will continue to provide assistance and updates for Pixel Slate until June 2024, and the Chrome OS team will continue to consider the software aspect of both notebooks and tablets. In reality, even if Google stops producing tablets, third-party manufacturers will not be required to do the same. Instead, Big G is going to concentrate on notebooks, with a fresh Pixelbook coming up by the end of the year.
