I come seeking refuge...

I come to Steem seeking refuge. It's wild out there, can you please let me in?

YouTube is an amazing technological development. We had a taste of what it could be like. Imagine a world where anyone with the will and the talent can make a career and develop a brand online. Imagine a decentralized news network where every channel is competing to be the most truthful and accurate. We saw what this could look like and began to see the societal impacts it creates these past years, but now Google and nearly every large multinational company that buys adds, and nearly every government are working together to strip us of this utility. And now that we've built up their platform, and can let all the traditional big guys in to a developed platform with users, they don't need us anymore.

Well ya know what, we don't need them anymore. We can do this ourselves. We will do this ourselves. But we've been lazy. We've been complacent. We thought YouTube would support our cause. Of course they didn't. We're caught with our pants down. We need alternatives. We need innovation. We need freedom and individuality.

We can do this. It's time to start building the next YouTube, one that actually is a platform for YOU.

The options are limited, and I'm excited to hear about Steem adding video capability, but I came across dtube.video and thinking they are off to a great start. I saw it on Press For Truth's YouTube and Steemit account. Should definitely go check them out. You need a steemit account to use dtube. Does anyone know of any other video alternatives? Especially ones that may have some way of rewarding and monetizing it's users? Although at this point, I'd be happy to see any alternative that doesn't interfere with our posts and our viewers, regardless of monetization.

I'm happy to be joining everyone here on Steem. Hope to introduce myself a bit more in future posts and share some thought provoking and meaningful content. And so it begins.
