Arikado pool updates

in #gridcoin6 years ago
  • Moved pool to external hosting
  • Added setup to pool, now pool setup is automated (but not fully automatical). Just fill ~20 fields and register on ~25 sites.
  • Checked php 5 support (works with 5.3.3)

How to check is you use new hosting

DNS updates is unpredictable. You can check is your DNS updated here:

My previous hosting photo

It's my old eee netbook without battery (used as server), UPS and raspberry pi (used as backup). Vacuum cleaner is not a part of the pool. But it provides support :)

As you see, you don't need special hardware to run gridcoin pool at the beginning.

Gridcoin is an open source cryptocurrency (Ticker: GRC) which securely rewards volunteer computing performed upon the BOINC platform in a decentralized manner on top of proof of stake.

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is a distributed Internet platform launched beginning of 2002 and rewards participants with credits for performed work. BOINC is an application available for multiple Operating Systems and utilises the unused CPU and GPU cycles on computers to perform scientific work.

Neat. You might be surprised but not every project has a setup like the seti@home computer room let alone projects don't all have high end dell/hp/supermicro " sun " servers and there is a very popular project Amicable Numbers for example that is ran off the admins laptop or was originally. I think that is cool that you are using a laptop and that you have a pi as a backup although I see your post topic says you moved it from this setup , imo a vps or colo/dedi isn't always needed and with SSD vs moving parts in a 2.5mm hard drive a laptop is perfect as a server ( my house is littered with both laptops and hp blades for my c3000 ) and with there being plug-n-play docker images and we have boinc crunching Linux distro's I am just waiting for someone to make a boinc-server OS vs just the boincOS and BILD for crunching and an out of box plug-n-play server os. Same with one for a Gridcoin pool on the fly.

Nice to see someone with good linux and sysadmin knowledge on steemit. What happened to your reputation did you also suffer from bernout (bern by none other than @berniesanders)? Lol nice to meet you , will be following you.

Just wanna let you know that I get this error when I change my project settings.

I just found this post from a random notification that I've got setup for the keyword docker. Gridcoin looks cool I got a small dedicated server to spare, would it be worth it to setup Gridcoin on a server with 4GB memory?

Your hardware is suitable for doing tasks with BOINC or run gridcoin wallet. If you not paying for cpu utilization and electricity, then yes, little profitable.
