The other day I made a post about the number of unique addresses creating blocks on the Gridcoin block-chain. I ran 1,000 blocks as its roughly representative of 1 day.

After a quick chat with @neuralminer whos API I was using, I decided to run 7,000 blocks as a 1 week representation and you factor in the GRC holdings of each address. As it hasppens this morning block 1390000 was minted so it seemed like an auspicious head to start the search from, and the results:

Analysis

We need to be really careful about the conclusions drawn from this excercise, we cannot for example conclude that 1791 Addresses are still staking blocks now, we cant even conclude that they were at block 1390000, all we can say is that over 7000 blocks some were staking some of the time.
Of course at any time nodes can join or leave the network, and not everyone stakes 24/7/365 even if their node is up.

Its the same for the value of GRC, all we can say is that the value of GRC held in those addresses at block 1390000 was that amount, but that value could have incresead or decreased radically between the time when the address staked the block and when the query was excecuted.
The mean average doesnt really tell us much on its own, I just included it for the sake of seeing what it is, we would have to do a distribution of min-max for it to mean any more.

Even more importantly there are plenty of Gridcoiners that might not stake a block every 7 days, even if they are staking 24/7/365, so their Address and GRC amounts arent included. I could run this for a month timeframe, but the longer we go back in history, the less accurate the picture becomes. The reality is we can never know how many addresses or how much GRC is staking at any moment (or at least Im not aware of a way to know!).

It does give us a rough guide about block-chain participation though, and I think it looks pretty great.
