After more than 18 years of running SETI@home and BOINC, I am finally approaching the Three Billion Credits milestone! I am currently at 2.995 billion credits and earning 2.5 million credits per day (through Einstein@home), so less than two days away from The Big 3.

To mark this special occasion properly, I have decided to give away 20 000 Gridcoins to promote BOINC, distributed computing and energy efficient crypto-mining through computational science.

My BOINC statistics on Free-DC. I expect to reach three billion BOINC credits in two days. Gridcoin ad on the left :)

10 000 GRC has already been sent to Gridcoinstats Researcher's Fund. This fund is actually an advanced Gridcoin faucet which allows every new cruncher/researcher on the BOINC network to claim up to 2 GRC (might as well increase it now). 2 GRC is not much, but every little bit helps when you are a newbie.

Another 10 000 GRC will be rained onto GPUGRID crunchers, 16 days from now (on New Year's Eve). Gridcoin rain is an advanced feature implemented in the Gridcoin wallet - any amount of Gridcoins you own can be "rained" i.e. distributed to the crunchers of every whitelisted BOINC project (GPUGRID included), proportionally to their computing contribution (more computations done->bigger average credit->more GRC rained on you). 16 days should still be plenty of time to start crunching for GPUGRID, pump up your RAC and claim your share of the 'rain' on Dec 31.

GPUGRID is a distributed computing project devoted to biomedical research. Thanks to the contribution of BOINC volunteers, GPUGRID scientists at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona can perform molecular simulations to understand the function of proteins in health and disease. Running BOINC on a GPU is a demanding task which consumes considerably more electric power than CPU projects, so GPUGRID crunchers certainly deserve this little bonus.

So there it is - if you want to mine cryptocurrency today, you don't have to run repetitive, wasteful PoW hashing on your PC. You can contribute to science and earn Gridcoins, validating the idea of crypto through scientific progress - something that everyone can relate to. Claim your part of this $1600 reward!

If you don't mind to take this advise: Try not to power up your posts at 100% but rather choose 50/50 option.

Good advice. I am aware that SBD is spiking, planned to set it to 50/50 and forgot about it. I guess I would have remembered it, if I posted more often.

Congrats to Vortac!

This is an amazing achievement. Distributed mining and Boinc in general is great tasks to run. Gridcoin rewards true research and regular people.

Faucet rewards will increase

Due to this great donation by Vortac, the Faucet rewards will change to 5 GRC for new active researchers, as well as double the rewards per day for active researchers.

At the same time the Faucet will once again open up to everyone to claim coins.

These changes will be made during the weekend.

Thanks again for all you do through gridcoinstats.eu - both with regard to the data you provide and the faucet. It is literally my most visited webpage, and I would hate to navigate the world of GRC without it. <3

Looking forward to your next iteration!

cool!! I should really give a try to mining on Gridcoin.

I'm super excited about GRC and am running BOINC on 3 Raspberry Pis and an Intel laptop, mostly Einstein@Home, TNGrid, Amicable Numbers, and Moo Project. Would love to take part in this giveway! GRC to the moon!

Sounds like you have the right hardware already, based on your project selection. Time to get that RAC building on the laptop. =)

Very cool - Congrats! I'm BOINCing along with Amicable Numbers and Seti, but just have my laptop at night so it will take a lifetime to reach this kind of milestone ;-)

Congrats on your milestone. You've been a long time supporter of the community through various means. Keep up the good work and happy crunching.

Congratulations!

(Out of interest, why GPUGRID?)

Well, it's devoted to biomedical research, so strong humanitarian considerations. Also, it's a GPU project, more expensive to run -> a little extra income will make it more appealing.

biomedical research

The best kind of research, as the impact will affect everyone either directly or through a close friend or family member at some point in their lives.

Congratulations! I've only been Boincing for Gridcoin for about 2 years now. Mostly on World Community Grid. I'm going to have to try GPUGRID now and see if I can score me some sweet airdropped Gridcoin.

You have excellent taste in projects. WCG is fantastic.

Congrats and much respect , you earned it and have the stats to show it! I have been around for that length of time myself too going back pre B.O.I.N.C. and back to the seti@home alpha days with private invites like when gmail beta came out but more elite feeling and far less people and for you to have kept the same user/login to migrate from an openGL only screen saver processing an area around the 3.5mhz RF spectrum averaging 1 WU every few days ( 5-7 that is per WU ) to process 1/100th the current seti@home WU data payload! BOGOMIPS FTW! That is the full time from birth to adult here in the USA , 18 years and I am thinking back to seti@home Y2K! Unfortunately when I learned of Gridcoin I created as always over the past two decades another user in the seti@home user base mucking up the database but wish I could had revived my original or '05 user because it would be really cool to show such a long history of being attached and related to the project('s) and the science of the BOINC/distributed commuting side if things!

P.S : Sooooo , my advise to all of us in Team Gridcoin or for that matter any B.O.I.N.C. user is to update your email address if you drop or change them. When I started most people were still on dialup and yahoo email was the new thing and it was to get away from your ISP (for most people AOL) similar to when Gmail came out and everybody migrated. So update update update! If you ditch the email user under your BOINC projects etc update it to your new address! Although I knew distributed computing was here to stay I had no idea we would be earning money from the work nor that I would be jelly reading a post on steemit from someone who was there when it all started too , just like me! Again congrats and mad respect!

I am still using the same e-mail address as in 1999 when I joined. Irony of it, it was free back then and now I have to pay "yearly subscription" for a mediocre service at best (at least when compared to Gmail). But of course, emotional value outweighs everything else in this case.

Amazing contribution and good choice of project to rain on!

Well Sir@vortac congratulations are definitely in order!!

Thank you for the computations you have done on our behalf and thank you for being an active member of the Gridcoin community we do appreciate you.
