Exploring the Sights of Guadalajara, Mexico, Contributed by @TangerineTravels

in #guadalajara6 years ago

We arrived in Guadalajara a few days ago and have been shocked at what we've noticed. We came here expecting a large, dirty, and poor city, but what we've seen is a thriving metropolis. There are gigantic new office buildings, pristine condos, and high-end Mercedes' driving around everywhere.

We've only explored a small portion of the city, so I'm sure there are parts of the city that are run-down and aren't thriving nearly as much. However what we've seen has been incredible.

This is one of the many new buildings that's still under construction. It appears to be condos that are nearing completion. We are very curious to learn how much they will cost!

The pictures of our Airbnb looked nice on the website, but the place didn't have any reviews and we didn't know what the part of town was like. We were quite happy to learn that it was, in fact, as nice as the pictures, located in a quiet and wealthy neighborhood.

This Airbnb was less than $14/night.

We didn't have a destination - just aimlessly walking. But we did some exploring and came across some of the city's old architecture. We found this building after grabbing some food at Mercado Libertad.

A little later, I ordered a Mexican staple. Enchiladas! These were really tasty enchiladas verdes stuffed with mushrooms and peppers. The plate was about $3.30 USD.

Although enchiladas are a Mexican staple, you can't come to Guadalajara and not get a torta ahogada! It's GDL's specialty - a sandwich smothered in a light, refreshing tomato salsa. Add their onion mix and you end up with plate full of mouthwatering flavor. This torta came out to about $2.60 USD. You can easily find one cheaper from a street vendor.

All in all, we're really enjoying the city of Guadalajara and all it has to offer. We're excited to explore more in the next few days.
