Katie just won another Science Fair and will be proceeding to State. She has successfully developed a natural substance that dissolves the substance that forms the spirochetes' protective biofilm! It was In Vitro so the next step is In Vivo experimentation. That said, we are not expecting an complications (it would take 3 hours of typing to explain why). The major issue now is determining the required In Vivo concentration levels (we actually want to dissolve the biofilms slowly so as not to cause a 'dramatic release' of spirochetes. As we have already developed substances that kill all the various forms, including the dreaded L-Form, this is a major advance!
BTW, Katie got accepted into the University of Florida yesterday. She'll probably get accepted into John Hopkins and Emory as well ... but her boyfriend is going to UF ... so. :-)
UF has actually dramatically shot up the ranks in the past few years so I'm not complaining. She'll be able to continue her research at UF even as an undergraduate.

That is what I call fantastic news! Congrats to both of you! I guess you are happy she won't be that far away from you, across the country. I am looking forward to hearing more about her progress on dissolving the bio-films.
