Used business laptops - good. Used gaming laptops - bad

The cheapest laptops you can buy are used business laptops. It is not uncommon to see used laptops that cost 350 PLN (~70€) easily outperforming new laptops that cost 1000 PLN(~200€). They are also (in most cases) well-built, with aluminum frames, adequate cooling, and quality screens.
Their batteries are usually in terrible shape and you cannot play any modern video games on them.
But for internet browsing, office applications, or even basic video editing they get the job done at a fraction of a cost of a new laptop.

Unfortunately, the same philosophy does not apply to used gaming laptops. They are just too expensive.
For example, used laptops with GTX 1060 cost around 3000 PLN (~650€)
And I would like to remind you that in a few months it will be 7 years from the launch of the GTX 1060.
So the sellers are expecting you to spend that much money on a used laptop, that could have run for almost 7 years. And the components have spent those 7 years under laptop temperatures (where it is not unusual to see 95 degrees under load).
Sure, those temperatures are not the end of the world. This is one of the things that we have to sacrifice to enjoy gaming on the go. They are safe enough to allow the warranty period to pass without issues. And more often than not even more - 3, 4, even 5 years.
But nothing lasts forever. The auction portals are full of desktop cards from 18 years ago. 6000 and 7000 series cards (like 6600/7600 GT) are everywhere - 45 offers on Polish Allegro. And where are laptops with graphics cards from just 9 years ago? GTX 660M / 760M? There are only 3 offers for such laptops (in working order).
Not to mention the fact that if something breaks in a laptop - it's usually a graphics card. And when that happens - the laptop is useless and close to worthless. Whereas if you have a desktop, you just swap the faulty part and keep going.
So the problem is that used laptops are usually priced as if they were meant to last forever. And while there are exceptions - some 'golden samples' (or the ones that were almost never used by the previous owner) - and they will survive for maybe even 10 years or more.
But the overwhelming majority will fail significantly sooner than their desktop counterparts (but the prices do not take into account at all).

This is the sad reality - gaming laptops are not budget-friendly. Especially used ones, So if you absolutely have to buy a gaming laptop - get a new one.
But if you are fine with playing only older games such as The Sims 4 and League of Legends (or gaming in the cloud) - it's okay to get a used business laptop.
