Someone asked me

Mrs.Maria my child has intestinal atresia from birth, has been operated on and made a stoma. yesterday he was admitted to the hospital due to dehydration, after several days at the hospital he vomited along with his defecation. What is the cause? and is that dangerous?

answer from me

Children who experience excessive vomiting and defecation in children can cause their own worries to parents. What needs to be considered in children who are defecating and mutating continuously is the appearance of dehydration. Dehydration occurs due to the body losing a lot of body fluids. As a result of dehydration the child can become weak, the production of urine is small, the child appears weak. If dehydration occurs, the child must immediately get a liquid intake which contains electrolytes and minerals, which can use ORS or with intravenous fluids if the child is hospitalized.

The cause of vomiting in children can be caused by:

  • Microorganism infection in the gastrointestinal tract / gastroenteritis

  • Ingestion of contaminated food or drinks

  • Food allergies

  • Infection, such as urinary tract infections, ear infections

While what can be done is:

  • Get to know is there food allergies in children, if there is one then avoid allergic triggers

  • Keep food and children's eating clean

  • Avoid giving nausea medication to children without a prescription from a doctor

  • You can give soft food first to the child
