You might have seen the name 'Diamond Princess' in several websites that track the number of people affected by the corona-virus. The Diamond Princess is a British registered ship that sailed the Japanese waters during the Corona-virus outbreak.

She generally roams the World by covering each parts during different years, for 2014 she sailed from Australia to New Zealand.

For 2016 to 2017 she was moving from Singapore to Sydney.

After 2018, until 2021 she was assigned to covering South East Asia between Japan, South Korea and several countries surrounding Malaysia.

This was when the outbreak happened, which is really unfortunate when you think about it.

How did the outbreak happen?

In January the ship had 3711 on board which included passengers and crew. It is said that on January 20, 2020 an 80 year old passenger from HongKong boarded the ship at Yokohama Japan and disembarked in Honk kong. Once he was on his way ,the 25th of the January he visited a local hospital in Hong Kong complaining of coughing. He tested positive for Covid-19.

The Medical Authority in Hong Kong gave quick information to Japan and the ship as well. It was decided to quarantine the ship to prevent people from getting out and infecting others. At this point the ship was near the Port of Yokohama in Japan.

The infections in the ship included:
138 Indians
35 Filipinos
32 Canadians
24 Australians
13 Americans
4 Indonesians
4 Malaysians
3 Britons

On March 1st all passengers and crew on board had left the ship thanks to the evacuating efforts of several countries and they were asked to quarantine themselves in their own countries

As of 16th March 712 of the 3711 passengers and crew had tested positive for Covid-19. As of March 24th 10 of those had died.
