Waterborne diseases are the type of diseases which caused due to the drinking of contaminated or dirty water and waterborne diseases prevention is the cure to the illness caused by it.We will discuss the waterborne diseases prevention but first, let us give an overview of such diseases.
Since contaminated water contains several types of pathogens, viruses, micro-organisms and bacteria’s which can attack the humans as well as animal’s health.
In a broad sense, water-borne diseases are those types of diseases caused by transmission of pathogens or micro-organisms through the water to humans or animals.
Mostly these diseases are caused due to the drinking of contaminated water, bathing with contaminated water and cooking with contaminated water.
According to WHO (World Health Organization) estimates deaths of humans annually due to water-borne diseases is about 1.5 million peoples.
Waterborne diseases increase rapidly due to the deficiency of safe and clean water.

Types of Waterborne Diseases

Now a day’s waterborne diseases increase with various types due to drinking of unsafe water
There are the following types of waterborne diseases including.

  • Diarrhea

  • Lead poisoning

  • Cryptosporidiosis

Causes of waterborne diseases

There are various causes of such diseases including

  • Unwanted level of chemicals in the water
  • Presence of heavy metals and nitrate in water
  • The agricultural chemical present in the water
  • High pH level of water
  • High turbidity of the water
  • the bulk amount of bacteria’s in water
  • Some amount of Pathogens in water
  • Presence of Pesticides in water
  • Dirt and contamination
  • Animal waste
  • Human waste
  • Viruses
  • Parasitic
  • Microbes
  • Pathogens

These micro-organisms transmit from water to human or animal body and produce a dangerous disease like Cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis, etc.

The waterborne disease can be prevented by adopting some hygienic habits including

  • Make sure your drinking water should be neat and clean
  • The pH level of water should be standardized according to slandered value.
  • According to (WHO) drinking water should contain 6.7-6.8 pH level
  • Water should have normal salt and minerals level.
  • Cook food with clean water
  • Wash your vegetables and fruits with clean water
  • Use clean water for swimming.
  • Wash your container in which you store the clean water
  • Wash hands with clean water before eating food
  • Arrange some seminars to aware the peoples about waterborne diseases prevention
  • Avoid taking dirty water at traveling.
  • Before drinking water should treat properly (remove bacteria, viruses, etc.)
  • Boil water before use.
  • Don’t trust bottled water because they refill the bottle with contaminated water to earn more.
  • Install water treatment plants for cleaning wastewater

Other waterborne diseases prevention techniques

  • Industries are the main source of water pollution they should have proper water treatment plants to treat water properly before discharge to the rivers, ocean, etc.
  • Industrial chemicals are very hazardous for human and animal health they can produce several waterborne diseases.
  • Fertilizers and chemicals also contaminate the drinking water there should be proper management of fertilizers.
  • These fertilizers contain several pesticides and bacteria they should have a proper restriction to mix with groundwater.
  • Acid rain also contained the drinking as well as the swimming water there should be a control measure for the acid rain.
  • Acid rain can be control by reducing the emissions of acidic compound in the atmosphere
