“Feed your mind”
Of all the decisions you’ll want to make deliberately in your life, making a decision about your mental health is key. With a lot of public display of stupidity and savagery common nowadays, it’s rare to find people that are concerned about their brain let alone their health. Many people make bad health choices that do not reflect now but in later times will. One bad choice is in the area of food.
I would like to shake the table a bit, food lovers by giving a talk about foods that enhance brain activity and actually make you use it better ( if you did use it at all). Your food choices may be the most influential variable you can control that relates to the functionality of your precious brain. We’ve always known that what we eat affects our bodies and how we look, but much more they take a toll on our brains. Yes, brain foods matter (especially for grey matter). Our bodies don’t like stress. Who does? When we’re stressed out, our bodies release inflammatory cytokines. These chemicals prompt the immune system to kick in and fight back against the stress through inflammation as though stress is an infection. Inflammation helps protect us against illness but chronic inflammation is a different sort. It’s linked to auto-immune diseases like multiple sclerosis, anxiety, high blood pressure and more.
What does this all have to do with food? Our gut helps keep our body’s immune responses and inflammation under control. Gut hormones that are produced in the brain influence cognitive ability, like processing new information, staying focused on the task at hand (with so many distractions around us, phew) and recognizing when we’re full.
Brain foods rich in antioxidants, good fats (yes, emphasis on the GOOD), vitamins and minerals provide energy and aid in protecting against brain diseases. Of course, some foods are better for your brain than others, so it’s important to know some foods that is good for your brain, body and mind.
• Avocadoes
Most people don’t like avocadoes but it’s one of the healthiest fruit to consume and though it looks as if it is high in fat, these are good fats you should be taking. It contains vitamin K and folate that prevents blood clots in the brain, helps improve memory and concentration. Also, it’s the fruit with the highest protein content and lowest sugar content.
• Dark Chocolates
(So many people love the sound of this) not all chocolate are created equal, dark chocolate is good for you. The darker the chocolate, the more health benefits (though it looks like a treat but your brain deserves more, it works just for you)
• Egg yolks
If you’ve been eating only egg whites, the yolks on you (get the drift). Yolks contain choline (for pregnant women and their foetus), also breaks down bethane, and a chemical that produces hormones related to happiness. Eggs can make you happy. If you’re scared of cholesterol in eggs, good news. Studies show that eating eggs had no effect on cholesterol levels of healthy adults. It’s also in exposure and a cheap source of good protein
• Green leafy vegetables
That’s right. Green leafy vegetables taste awesome, meat lovers. Getting regular servings of veggies and greens in our meals can help keep dementia at bay. When it comes to brain power, greens should be on your plate every meal
• Whole grains
Your brain can’t work without energy. The ability to concentrate and focus comes from an adequate steady supply of energy. Whole grains like pasta, rice, bread and all.
• Oily fish
Vegetarians can take soya bean and olive oil. Omega 3 fats contained in oily fish are good for you. Good plant sources are also in soya bean and walnuts. These fats are for healthy brain function and general wellbeing. Oily fish includes sardines, mackerel, herring, and kippers.

So next time you need to use more brain power or boost common sense levels, go for healthy brain food choices. Live healthy.

FEED YOUR MIND ( poem by Inova)
He listens to inspiring words daily, focusing his mind on the inspiring lot
A breakfast of words and a dinner filled with positive thoughts
Yet his mind suffers from too much loss and his knowledge are useless not being put in good use
He thinks he’s wise but what wisdom is it to work on an impoverished brain
His brain suffers from lack of care, making his words just a fistful of air
In time he’ll learn that feeding stomach with food would relieve him of stress
The right food choices, so easy he’ll just need to munch it
Choosing to feed not just his mind but also the power that runs his mind
