In brief, SCD is a serious inherited disease which alters the normal round Red blood cells into a Sickle - shaped Red blood cell. This changes makes the Red blood cells fragile and prone to haemolysis(rupture).
The number of red blood cells decreases when haemolysis(rupture) occurs leading to anaemia. The sickled cells can block blood vessels leading to severe pains(crisis)

How Is Sickling Test Done ?
As a health worker, I recommend this test to be an important pre-mariage laboratory test. Please go for this test before you say I do to that beautiful lady and handsome guy 💗.
To get this test done, you can simply walk in to a registered laboratory facility and request to know your Hb genotype. A blood sample will be taken by a qualified laboratory technician to run the test which will take a short time.
NB- It is advisable to do this test at least three times at three different registered facilities for accuracy sake before marriage.

#Compatible Genotypes For Marriage

It is a difficult decision to let go of someone you are so much in love with because your genotypes are not compatible for marriage. This is because you might have invested alot of time, money, love etc in this relationship.
However, I can assure you that is the best decision ever. Do not choose love over the health of your future kids.
