Health, we only have 1 of it

in #health5 years ago

I got confronted with a lot of people around with who are dealing with stuff in their health, no matter how big or small it is. Now this might sound a bit stupid ofcourse, because I work in surgery, and yeah indeed... this means that I see sick people every day.

But as every job in healthcare, this should not bother you on a daily basis because otherwise your job is absolutely undoable. And in general I don't get bothered by it, because I really just like to treat people in the best way that I can. That doesn't mean that everybody is fixable, because often too many nasty diseases are just too much for life to keep winning on it.

But on the other side there are so many things doable about it. Preventative care, knowledge, checking in in time, lifestyle and unfortunately for a lot: also just sheer luck.

What I do always find funny is that people have complaints about how high their healthcare insurance is. But when something is physically wrong with them, they are still capable of demanding the best healthcare without paying for it because there is no money while holding an Iphone X which they did find important enough to spend their money on.

And a lot of countries have a policy of that everybody should be helped on their treatment regardless of that they have insurance or not. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this social system, because I really believe that everybody should have the same rights for proper medical treatment PERIOD.

But if this means that people prioritize other stuff and then say that they can not afford their care, that really makes me angry. And don't worry guys, I am not talking about economically distressed countries, I get what is going on there, and that the options here are a totally different ballgame.

'If I ruled the world' as the Fugees would say, I would everybody pay their healthcare insurance according to the height of their income. The more you make, the more you support the ones who can not do this themselves. An impopular measure to everyone who is building their own future, but one that I would happy work with when crypto moons like a mofo

But which greedy souls am I talking about?I am talking people who makes choices about what color their new lambo will be, how many followers they have, and so forth but who refuse to deal with getting their finance in order for their actual health. Because let's be realistic people:

There is no point in having that lambo-insta-account when you are six feet under

Yup. Exactly. And it's not even really about health insurance but affording good food, making time for basic exercise & learning to invest in ourselves. My sister at 57 is stage 4 cancer and exiting rapidly - an overweight, lifetime smoker. Still, even in palliative care, she talks about "the cards life has dealt her" as if her choices and lifestyle had nothing to do with it. 😭

Health is one of those things that we take for granted. I am not sure if that goes for the whole world but the people that I am surrounded by do that (and sadly that includes me as well).

I won't say that I am careless with my health but these past few years have taught me that I haven't really prioritized it well ..... this comes back to you bite you so hard.

Im in these cycles I think when it comes to health! Some weeks I really try to do what is good for me and that feels good mentally, but some other weeks I really take advantage of on how exhausted I can get because I know I can recover from it again.. not always the best tactic, but indeed....when we look around us, its not so bad at all right ;)

Ups and downs even in our motivation..... no way to avoid being human :-)

hahahaha dude Im always way too much human :DD
