A SPECIAL MOTHER

All mothers are special ... but this is not the meaning I mean; this time I will talk about mothers of children with special needs.

When you start to be a mother your life changes, your priorities are focused on that baby and all the things that involve raising a family, work, school, extracurricular activities, your personal life.

But when you have a child with some condition or with special needs, everything becomes crazy, when you must include in your routine medical appointments, continuous therapies, you must definitely change your way of thinking about parenting and include habits according to the needs of the child. boy.

I AM A SPECIAL MOM

My little one was diagnosed with High Performance Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD-AF) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), at 4 years of age.

"Autism is one of the most complex developmental disorders, both for the affected person and the family. In this disorder are affected areas and basic functional abilities for the human being such as social interaction, language and communication, mental and behavioral flexibility and symbolization. Associated problems such as behavioral problems, hypersensitivity, and sleep and eating disorders can be linked to this problem. This set of alterations can cause serious changes in family dynamics and generate important needs in all areas. " SOURCE

My prince is called Salvador, now he is 6 years old and he is a very handsome boy, super extroverted, nice and affectionate.

Since I was very young I had noticed certain behaviors that did not seem right to me in a child that is being raised in a calm and unviolent environment, very long and aggressive tantrums, it generally did not respond to his name, it was very challenging and rebellious, besides, it is very restless, he did not nap and fell asleep very late. These crises were not only at home, but I just went out with him, that is, we did not go to parties, meetings, walks, shopping centers, cinemas, we only went to controlled places like family homes. All these behaviors were attributed to the fact that he was the only child in the house and that he was spoiled.

But the worst started when he started preschool, every day he received complaints, they called me to look for him before the start time, when he got frustrated because they did not leave him or wanted to force him to do something, scratched, bit, kicked, spat , he did not feel respect or fear for any adult of the institution to which he never adapted, he never followed the routine, he refused to carry out the activities, he did not participate in group meetings (they seemed so boring that he would lie on the floor and he slept) socialized with very few children.

During the first period everyone told me that it was normal to adapt, that little was going to adapt, the second period arrived and everything remained the same, so the Director advised me very cautiously to seek professional help, to talk with my pediatrician about the behavior of my son. Which I did immediately, he referred me to a psychologist and a neurologist.

And here began my new life chronogram, between appointments and therapies. First we went to the neurologist where they performed an electroencephalogram and a series of blood tests. After the review the Doctor told me: this little gentleman is very nice, witty and very talkative; is very restless is definitely Hyperactive, but you have not noticed that it has a very wide vocabulary, it does not make eye contact and it is difficult for them to understand the non-literal sense, your child has characteristics of autism, he was medicated and he invited me to document myself on the subject, He referred to psychology and psychopedagogy. After these emerged new consultations such as occupational therapy, language therapy, nutritionist.

Actually my son's behavior has improved, he adapted super fast to the first grade, he follows orders, he respects, he is more tolerant. All this effort, fatigue, patience, interruptions in work, it is worth to improve their empathy, their social adaptation and autonomy.

Currently I keep two appointments in the week psychopedagogy, two occupational therapy, directed tasks and sports activities, apart from all the things you have to do to keep a home afloat.

I recommend to parents that if they observe any disruptive behavior in their children, do not consider it normal, discard where that behavior comes from, seek professional help, consult with your pediatrician, this will help them a lot for the early diagnosis of any condition. Keep in mind that your reactions or impulsivities are physiological is not something they do on purpose, be constant, be patient, be loving.

MY RESPECT AND ADMIRATION TO THOSE PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, BECAUSE NOT HOW MUCH CAN YOU LOVE THAT SON (THAT IS A NATURAL PROCESS AND WITHOUT DIFFERENCES) BUT THE EVOLUTION AS A HUMAN BEING THAT CAN BE REACHED TO LEARN TO SEE THE POSITIVE DONE OTHERS ONLY COME CHALLENGES

I HOPE THAT MY EXPERIENCE WILL GUIDE THEM TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO FEEL IDENTIFIED WITH THE THEME
