Hello dear Steemit members!
It is difficult but much fun to be in Steemit as a minnow. You learn new things every passing day and meet members from all around the world. My first 3 months passed learning and discovering. And now I am both happy and excited being a new member of the sndbox. I give my thanks to the @tach and @sndbox creators. As a beginning, let me introduce myself shortly.

Who am I?

My name is Egemen. I’ve been a physiotherapist for 15 years. Apart from a bachelor’s degree on physiotherapy, I got education on exercise physiology, audiology and speech disorders areas. Unfortunately there are lots of health problems all of us face in our daily lifes. And as a physiotherapist, i want to share my knowledge about physical health and the things that threaten it. I hope I will be helpful to you. Of course professional life is not my only life. I'm also the father of Sarp, Leyla and Troy who is a georgeus looking labrador. Travelling, photography and Turkish kebabs are my favorites. There are no other special hobbies. Gosh! I almost forgot, i'm from Turkey.

Today I will mention a topic which is very fundamental but as much important; posture. I’ve had so many patients having come to me with various diseases throughout my professional life. Maybe thousands… Although the diagnosis and the problems of all these have been completely different from each other, they had one thing in common: postural deformities.
Old, young, woman, man, athlete, obese, all of them had postural problems. This postural deformities had been either the reason of their disease or occurred as a result of their disease. There is no certain notion about whether postural deformities is a reason or a result because it is a vicious circle that these reasons lead to results, and results to reasons. One way or another, if there is postural deformities and problems that it causes, then we need to do something for this. Let’s start.

What is posture? What is the ideal posture?

To begin with, let me mention what posture is, as we cannot comprehend, protect or fix, if needed, a situation that we do not know anything about.
Posture is the balance of the body. It is that our spine is in the neutral position. In other words, it is the language of your body and psychology. Human spine has its own S type anatomic structure. Muscles and ligaments have settled in certain angle and length in this structure. These structures composed of these muscles and ligaments always work consistently even though we are inactive against the gravity. This position of our body standing, sitting or lying is called static posture.
Static posture is the posture which occurs as a result of our muscles’ contraction to stabilise the joints and their resistance to gravity. However, our body has a dynamic posture while the body is on the move. Dynamic posture tries to adapt to the environmental conditions changing continuously. On this point, we need to know what the ideal posture is and how it occurs.
Ideal posture is the situation when the stress and tension is minimum and our body works in maximum efficiency with the minimum energy consumption. For an ideal posture, there should be a decent and balanced array of extremities while standing, walking and sitting.

What does ideal posture depend on?

It can differ due to the person’s genetic features, gender, profession, even seasons and economic conditions. Therefore, I believe that the posture of Steemit members that deteriorates at the computer will be better due to their economic situations and psychological moods later on. Of course I am joking, and I will write the things to pay attention to for our posture in the future.

And how does our brain perceive posture?

The special position of our body forms by using the data that our brain and nervous system collect from 3 different sources. These sources are eyes, ears, muscle and joints. The input collected by these is reported to the brain and our brain balances our body.
The perception of our body is of great importance as the brain perceives a bad posture completely normal as a consequence of the habit of years, and it does not feel the need to fix it until the occurrence of pain or other physical symptoms.

Is there a perfect posture ? No, there is nobody having a perfect posture because our reference point is the ideal posture. As people have different body structures and different lifestyles, everybody has a different posture. The posture structure of people is the consequence of their childhood habits. My first suggestion for this is to care about the necessary education of our children in terms of this notion. Of course, there are plenty of things for us adults as well, but preventing the problem without occurring is the easiest and the cheapest method.

Who has a bad posture? The next topic will be the types of bad posture. That’s all for now.
Take care…
